Carly Sawatzki strives to be good at all she does. A good academic. A good corporate wife. A good mother. So, when she was diagnosed with early breast cancer just after her 40th birthday, she set about to be a good patient. In an effort to connect with her family, friends and colleagues about her illness, she shared her experiences and reflections via a Facebook group. She also took up walking, weights and yoga. Carly’s openness and vulnerability revealed a spirited woman very few had seen before. Via more than 100 posts to a community of more than 100 people, Carly showed herself to be an insightful writer who can craft words in ways that make you think, laugh and cry. Cancer made Carly calm and wise. She is now on a quest to live well, one day at a time.
